VANGUARD DESIGN GROUP
Adam Vermeersch
Designer | Project Manager
Art and design have always played a large part in Adam’s life. From an early age he immersed himself in the creation of illustrations, graphic designs, and small scale objects. Following high school he elected not to enroll in fine arts college to study illustration, but instead opted to enlist in the United States Air Force, where his problem solving skills and mechanical inclination were put to use as a diesel mechanic. He left active duty and joined the Michigan Air National Guard so that he could pursue a formal education that would reinforce his abilities as a craftsman and designer. Adam has served his country for 12 years and continues to serve as a guardsman. During his time at university Adam was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, his perseverance and determination enabled him to earn an Associates of Science in Aerospace Ground Equipment from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelors of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy. In addition to his architectural training, both formal and professional (having experience at multiple local architectural practices), Adam has spent time in the construction field as a rough carpenter, roofer, and steel frame worker. He has also gained experience as a model fabricator, crafting highly detailed, scaled architectural models from laser cut acrylic and paper. He has also been a key participant in the design and fabrication of exhibits and pop-up spaces that provided community meeting places for non-profit organizations in the Metro Detroit area. He is passionate about learning, service and community while always striving to absorb knowledge and techniques that will assist him in crafting a better built environment at any scale. Adam has been with VDG since its inception and is a valuable asset to the team because of his attention to detail, extremely strong work ethic, and ability to design and craft custom works for VDG.
